13-inch MacBook Pro (non-Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program

13-inch MacBook Pro (non-Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program by Apple

Apple is a brand that is known to focus on the perfection in terms of the quality. Not only does it continuously work on makings it products better but also responds to the issues that customers face with any of the products. Be it an issue with the hardware or software, the type of resolution that Apple gives has always led to customer satisfaction.

The year 2018 has been a rough one for Apple but it has tackled it smoothly by launching several replacement and repair programs to tackle the hardware issues in MacBooks and iPhones. One such recent announcement has been the 13” MacBook Pro battery replacement program for the variant without the Touch Bar.

The issue– some of the MacBook Pro 13” variants face battery issues as the battery begins to expand.

Apple’s solution– free replacement of the battery when the user approaches an authorised service centre.

Why does this happen?

Some of the 13” MacBook Pro models that were manufactured in the batches between October 2016 and October 2017 had a certain flaw that affects the battery. Apple has not disclosed the cause of the problem and the actual issue that leads to this. But all that we have heard is that the issue causes the battery to expand. Though this is not of a safety concern and though this might not lead to serious hardware issues, it is always a good idea to have a healthy battery. Battery issues might dampen the performance of the MacBook.

What should you do if you own a 13” MacBook Pro?

As of now Apple has only announced the program for the non-Touch bar variant. So if you own one, start by checking the eligibility of your MacBook for this program. Only a select few serial numbers are said to be affected. So from the Apple website you would be able to check whether your MacBook is at risk by entering the serial number. Your MacBook would be eligible for the MacBook battery replacement program if-

  • The MacBook is within the range of the affected MacBook models
  • The battery has already not been replaced

The program can be utilized for 5 years after the first retail sale of the particular MacBook Pro. Do not worry about the warranty being affected by this battery replacement.

Preparing your MacBook for the process

Start with identifying the most convenient Apple authorised service centre to approach. Depending on the actual issue at hand and depending on the other issues that might affect battery replacement the time taken for the whole process might vary. Make sure that you have taken a backup of all your data.

The replacement

The service centre team would then examine your MacBook and identify whether there are any other issues to be addressed to ensure successful battery replacement. Other repairs if carried out, might call for additional expenses which are not covered in the MacBook battery replacement program.

What if you had already spent on a new battery due to this issue?

If you are among the users who had already identified the problem with the battery and gotten it replaced then Apple would also process a refund for the money spent on the replacement.
