How to create an Apple ID without a credit card

In the first article of the ‘iService Here to Help’ series, we explained the steps to create an Apple ID on a computer or an Apple device with a payment method. A payment method is helpful when you want to buy paid apps or content from the store. But not all of us are interested in paid apps and hence entering payment information while creating an Apple ID. So how can you create an Apple ID without a credit card or payment method? We have detailed it out below.

• On a computer

• On an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Create an Apple ID on your computer without a credit card

1. Open iTunes on your computer and go to the App Store or iTunes Store. Now select a free product (let’s say Whatsapp messenger) and click on the ‘Get button’ under it.

2. You’ll now be prompted to ‘Sign-in’ to the App Store (or iTunes if you’ve selected a free product there). When this pop-up appears, select ‘Create Apple ID’ and then click on ‘Continue’.

3. You’ll now see the ‘Terms and Conditions and Apple Privacy Policy’ page.  Click on ‘Agree’ to proceed.

4. Fill up the form on the next page. It includes three security questions and even requests for an optional rescue email address. We highly recommend providing this email address as it might prove to be very useful for you in the future.

5. Click on ‘Continue’ after  you’ve filled in all the required details. If you see a message alert that says ‘the email address you entered is already being used for an Apple account’, click here and follow the instructions.

6. You’ll now reach a page that asks you to provide a payment method. On this page, select ‘None’ from the options provided and then click on ‘Continue’.

7. Even though you select none, some of the fields on this page still mandatory. You will need to fill them up.A verification mail will now be sent to your registered email address. Open the email and click on the ‘Verify Now’ link

8. You will now be redirected to the Apple ID page to verify your email address. Enter the email address and password that you used to create the Apple ID and then click on the ‘Verify Address’ button.

Voila! You’re done!

 Create an Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch without a credit card:

1. Open the App Store or iTunes Store on your iOS device.

2. Find a free app and then click on ‘Get’

3. On the pop-up that appears, select ‘Create New Apple ID’

4. On the following screen, select your country and click on ‘Next’

5. You’ll now see the ‘Terms and Conditions and Apple Privacy Policy’ page. Tap on ‘Agree’ to proceed.

6. Fill up the form on the next page. It includes three security questions and even requests for an optional rescue email address. We highly recommend providing this email address as it might prove to be very useful for you in the future.

7. You’ll now reach the ‘Billing information’ page. Select ‘None’ and fill in the mandatory details before tapping ‘Next’.

8. You’ll now see a ‘Verify your account’ screen. Tap on ‘Done’..

9. Now sign-in to the email address that you’ve provided and look for a verification e-mail from Apple.

10. Open the email and select the ‘Verify now’ link. You will now be redirected to the Apple ID page for verification.

11. Enter the email address and password that you used to create the Apple ID and then tap on the ‘Verify Address’ option.

Voila! You’re done!
